Fundraising at Secondary School Regionals
Anyone planning on fundraising at the Secondary School Regionals please let Matai know at hoetonga@gmail.com.
This is to ensure we do not have people selling the same things on the day. e.g three sausage sizzles running.

Hoe Tonga Paddler Series Hosts
Still a few month away till the beginning of the 2020 Hoe Tonga Winter Paddler Series, however planning is already underway.
In order for this series to run we do need some of our dedicated clubs to host these race.
Hosting a paddler series race is a great opportunity to upskill club members and is a great fundraising opportunity for clubs. Therefore any clubs that would like to host one of the Winter Series Races, we encourage you to send us a notification of interest to hoetonga@gmail.com by FEB 15th 2020.
Please include your preference of date (or order of preference) and a brief overview of how you will host the event. (Please note the first race will be hosted by Hawaikinui on May 23rd)
The dates available are as follows
- July 11th
- Aug 1st
- Sep 5th
We will try to spread the races around the region e.g Wellington, Porirua, Whanganui ect. Any questions please do not hesitate to ask.
Sprint Nationals Site Allocation 2020
We will be marking out an area of the spectator bank that must be kept clear of all tents or marques. This is to allow for safe walking passage.
If your region or clubs in your region are arranging for a Hire company to erect tents on your behalf. The Hire Company needs to know where to put them in relation to the designated space below.
Clubs should be reminded that their tents need to be within your regional allocated area. If tents (club or otherwise) are erected in the wrong area or in such a way that it does not maximise space we will ask that they are taken down.

- Midget

- Master 70
This rule only applies where a club does not have sufficient paddlers to form their own, stand-alone, W12 crews in those age categories. A W12 crew made up of two clubs may be a combination of any number of paddlers from those two clubs. They must satisfy all other rules as specified in the race rules.
If your club wishes to combine with another club in the above divisions, please take note of the following:
- The proposed entry will need to be sent to hoetonga@gmail.com by no later than 12 December Midday. This will ensure that Hoe Tonga has sufficient time to make the entries to meet the Waka Ama NZ timeframes.
- Entries are to be submitted only by an executive officer of one of the clubs. In the email the relevant executive officer must provide confirmation that (i) both clubs agree on the entry and its name (copy in other relevant executive officers), and (ii) that the entry has been checked by both clubs to comply with relevant rules.
- Paddler names must be submitted to hoetonga@gmail.com no later than 31 December 2019. Hoe Tonga will not chase up unfilled rosters – relevant late fees will be passed on to clubs. It is the club’s responsibility to inform Hoe Tonga of the roster, or of any changes to the roster. Paddler names should not be submitted until all paddlers have been checked by the clubs as being on the Waka Ama NZ membership database for their club.

Big thank you to all the volunteers and Wairarapa Waka Ama Canoe Club for hosting the event again. Thank you to all the clubs who assisted in the delivery of the event in some shape or form.
You can find all the results below.
Please note that the Dash results will be uploaded at a later time due to some technical difficulties.
Also with Race 74 Senior Master Mens 1000m straight final there was some issues with the timing system, however all the placings for this race are correct and all racing faults by teams have been considered.
Congratulations to our winners of the Club Excellence Trophy for 2019 who once again were Otaki Waka Hoe
The winners of the James Hapeta Trophy for club spirit were Wairarapa Waka Ama Canoe Club.
Well done to all our winners and participants and good luck for the Waka Ama Nationals 2020.
W1 Regionals this Saturday
Hoe Tonga Regional Sprint Championships Officially kick off this weekend at Henley Lake in our W1 divisions. Just a few reminders.
- Paddlers are required to organise their own W1 to race in, the event organisers will not runaround to help look for one on the day so make sure you are prepared for something to race in.
- Participants must bring their own number holders. There will be some available for purchase at the registration desk for $5 each but stock is very limited so best to bring your own.
- All Waka must be 16kg or over. If you believe you need some weights because your waka is too light please bring some.
- If you are from out of the region you will not be eligible for the quota spots at nationals or the event prizes but still welcomed to race.
There will also be W1 Waka roof racks available at the venue. They are $150 each. If you miss out at the venue but still interested contact Kara Henare
