Yet again a fantastic weekend of paddling at Kaiteriteri with over 280 paddlers travelling from as far as Whangarei in the North and Dunedin in the South. The Wake Te Tasman event was the biggest yet, it just keeps growing year on year.
And it’s no wonder its a popular event as it nails all the key things that are needed to make many want to come back year after year: great venue, great people, and great racing.
From the Wellington region, 4 clubs (Hawaiki Nui Tuarua, Hikoikoi, Kokiri, and Porirua Canoe Kayak Club) sent a record total of 8 teams across the Cook Strait to compete at this top-class event, and with fantastic successes.
PCKC’s Team Inano took out the Premier Women’s division, and Team Makaira-Interislander took out the Premier Men’s division. A great result also for Hikoikoi’s Snr Master Men’s Team who came second in their division. Paddlers were able to celebrate further successes in the W1 and W2 events, and the novice divisions.
A huge thank you to the organisers from the Motueka Waka Ama Club and their keen sponsors: Kaiteriteri Recreation Reserve Board, Abel Tasman Aquataxi and Wakatu Incorporation.
…and below some footage taken from Makaira-Interislander’s onboard camera. Hold on to your paddles…
