W1 Harbour Series (IV), 25 July, at Mana / Ngati Toa Domain

The W1 Harbour Series (IV) on 25 July will be run from Mana. Although the weather forecast at http://www.weather.co.nz is only for a light 10kt southerly, to be safe it will be in Mana / Ngati Toa Domain again.

Time: meet at 9.15am, race start at 10am

Distance: ~ 10km

Safety: Paddlers are to ensure that they carry all necessary safety gear, i.e. life jacket, bailer, and are trained in basic self-rescue techniques!

Cost: $2 and your enthusiasm, money goes towards price for the paddler with the most points but winning isn’t the only way to gain points.

FYI, points to give away:

  • 1 point for attendance
  • 1 point for a win (if at least three paddlers in same/lower/higher division)

The main price is a a brandnew blue wave camelbak. There will also be additional spot prices, handed out at the completion of the series in September.

Purpose: This event is for those looking for some competition and for those wanting to spice up their W1 training sessions.

Paddling craft: The series is intended for W1 but the event is open to all paddling craft. The series runs during the Winter season between May and September. Note that the Surfski and Waka Ama Series runs between October and March.

The W1 Harbour Series (III) on 4 July will be run from Ngati Toa, Mana. The weather forecast is rather average again. According to the metservice, it’s likely turning southeast 10 knots during morning, getting stronger later. As a result, we will again race from Mana (Ngati Toa domain).

Time: meet at 9.15am, race start at 10am

 

Distance: ~ 10km

Safety: Paddlers are to ensure that they carry all necessary safety gear, i.e. life jacket, bailer, etc.

Cost: $2 and your enthusiasm, money goes towards price for the paddler with the most points but winning isn’t the only way to gain points.

This year’s W1 Harbour Series will be run roughly every three-four weeks on the following Sundays:

Yep it’s the lucky last race of the 2009/2010 Season… but don’t forget the Tai Tonga 41 Race at Evans Bay the day before…
Welly Paddlers Series Race 12

The Venue is Ngatitoa Domain Mana.
Start time 10 am………..we will be there early as usual from 9.15 am for registrations.
We have 3 courses.
2.5km for SUP’s
7 km short course
10 km long course
2.5 km course…………. Ngatitoa to the last mooring pole by the shoreline at Te Onepoto Bay then back to Ngatitoa.
7 km course……………..Ngatitoa to the last mooring pole by the shoreline at Te Onepoto Bay then head around into the Pauatahunui Estuary and
around a yellow buoy at the Bottom of  Browns Bay then back to Ngatitoa.
10 km course……………Ngatitoa down the Porirua Harbour to the Jetty at Onepoto by the Rowing Club then head around into the Pauatahunui Estuary
and around a yellow buoy at the bottom of Browns Bay then back to Ngatitoa.
As mentioned the change in distance is due to Matariki being cancelled this Year and the fact that it is cooling off a bit and most of the races have already wound down for the Season now as well.
We’ll have all the tee shirts there as well, so bring an extra $25 if you’d like one.

Regional Sprints later this year

The Hoe Tonga has just agreed to run the Hoe Tonga W1 and W6 Sprints on the following dates:

Hoe Tonga W1 Sprints (Regional Champs, including qualifier for Nationals 2011)

Date: 4 December

Reserve date: 5 December

Venue: to be confirmed but likely Onepoto

Hoe Tonga W6 Sprints (Regional Champs)

Date: 11 December

Reserve date: 12 December

2nd reserve date: 18 December

Venue: to be confirmed but likely Onepoto

Note that Hoe Tonga has also agreed to no longer run two W6 Sprint events. It is however likely that a club will take on the responsibility of running one event.

Waka Ama Series at Petone on Easter Sunday

You can all make this Wellingtons biggest multi Canoe/ Kayak race by turning up………….if you don’t it will be Wellingtons semi biggest race (-:
Sorry it’s Easter Weekend and the end of daylight savings as well, on the flip side like family, we will be giving away Easter Eggs!
Course:
From The Wellington Waterski Club follow the Motorway to the Interislander reclaimed land (knoll) and turn around a buoy 10 metres from the shore in that bay before the knoll then back to the finish distance 13 km
If it’s a tricky little Southerly the course will be from the same starting point but will run along the shoreline and around up the Hutt River to a buoy by the Sladden Park dead arm and return the distance will be about 11km.……….yep that’s half of the Crazyman course!

We don’t cancel our races we just go for another course or venue if it’s too rough.

Open to all Surf skis, Outrigger Canoes, sea kayak, multisport kayaks, adventure racing doubles and double surf skis.
Buoyancy Vests are compulsory either worn or carried, the use of bailers, foot or handpumps, leg leashes, paddle floats cellphones, flares and any other safety equipment is optional and your judgement should be used in regard to whether you feel they will assist you on the day.
Again there are heaps of Spot Prizes including Welly Paddlers tee shirts and all the usual spoils if you wish to order one they are green with yellow writing on them………….Welly paddlers on the front $25 each……………….. selling just below cost, as we got a good deal om them.
I’ve got sizes M and L in this current batch, there are 6 left………..another batch will be available at the last race for pick up (all sizes just place your order this weekend)
