Kia ora koutou,
Hoe Tonga Pacifica Waka Ama Association & College Sport Wellington is proud to announce that we will be running the regional secondary school sprints again this year.
All approached coaches will read in the information pack that we have tightened up on requirements this year based on last year’s event.
We would also like to hear from an experienced W6 team of adult paddlers to demonstrate a W6 capsizing drill to be performed before we get racing underway. Please email us, if your crew is interested. This would be a great koha to give our rangatahi by showing how a W6 safety drill is carried out on the water.

Notice is given that the annual New Zealand Police Association Waka Ama Champs will be held on 5 and 6 March in Porirua (Onepoto).
The event is opten to non Police crews on Saturday for the sprint racing. The organisers are expecting to cater for juniors although the form does not specify this. Please just mark in the ‘novice’ column if the team has junior status and flag this – in this way, provided there are enough entries, the organisers can run a junior category.
The key contacts are Jackie Mulligan and Mike Oxnam, as per info package.

Notice to: All paddlers who have made quota for HTPWAA W1!
I hope your training is going well and you are now focussing on your upcoming races. Please note it is the paddlers and club representatives responsibility (Juniors) to ensure you are aware of the race schedule .Therefore, if you are not intending on competing in your respective division and have not notified HTPWAA of withdrawl your club will be invoiced for any withdrawl fees incurred.
To date where withdrawls have been made, Hoe Tonga has offered a place to the next on the quota list. These amendments have been processed and no further additions or alterations will be done. If you are unable to paddle on Thursday 21 January 2010 in the W1 races due to exceptional circumstances you will need to make a medical or special exemptions application to admin@wakaama.co.nz , and let the regional coordinator Chris Fox know htpwaa@gmail.com (027 651 5379)
Due to reallocated space for waka, there is no restriction to the amount or type of W1 that can be used for this event. Space will again be marked out for each region. Your regional coordinator (Chris Fox 027 651 5379) will monitor this space and ensure access-ways are not blocked. Paddlers are responsible for storing W1 in allocated spaces without causing damage to any other waka.
W1 must be weighed and checked-in on Wednesday 20th between 12 noon and 6pm. Only Hulls will be weighed and must not exceed 16kgs. (Paddler must provide their own Weights) W1 will need to be lashed after weigh in and left in the secured storage area as will be directed. Every Waka must have Number holder. A limited supply of number holders will be onsite and can be purchased from the Admin building for $5 each. HTPWAA will not be supplying number holders at Nationals (refer to Panui 2 below for further information).

The race format will involve heats and finals . Progression to finals will be based only on times posted in the heats.
Please read the race information package so that you are aware of all relevant information, see relevant W6 (II) event notice on this website.
Please note that due to a large amount of entries, all those teams that want to race in a second division cannot be accomodated (due to a limited number of lanes and W6 available). For instance, a team wanting to race in J16 and J19 will only be allowed to race in J16. We apologise but unless this is done we will be racing until late at night. Moreover, some races have been combined (e.g. Senior Master Women are racing in Masters) to cut down on the number of individual races. Again, this is due to the limited number of lanes and W6.

Due to adverse weather conditions, the event is postponed to Sunday, 13 December. A further change may occur if the weather conditions do not improve.

Update 2 (26 Oct): As a minimum two entries are needed per division for the race to be run.
Update 3 (28 Oct): The event will be run in regatta format, involving heats, semi-finals and finals. The format will be very similar to what is done at Nationals.
