Update 1 (26 Oct): The race distance for midgets is 250m. Please ensure that midgets are reasonably experienced in the OC1.

Update 2 (26 Oct): As a minimum two entries are needed per division for the race to be run.

Update 3 (28 Oct): The event will be run in regatta format, involving heats, semi-finals and finals. The format will be very similar to what is done at Nationals. For clarification, the placings in the final of each division will determine the first 5 or 6 quota places (depending on lane numbers). Further quota places are allocated depending on the time posted in the semi-final (or heat if there is no semi-final).

Whanganui River Festival to be held on 8th November

Two courses; 13km and 4km

An event for: Kayaks; TK1, K1, K2, multisport, open Canadian, competition rowers, open water rowers, surf lifesaving New Zealand canoes and boats, surf skis-single and double, sea kayaks, waka-ama and dragon boat.

Entry:  $15 per person until 26 October. $20 late entry including race day per person

Registration:  8am-9.45am at the Union Rowing Club

Race Briefing:  9.50am at the Union Rowing Club.

Race Start:  11.00am Long Course, 11.05 am Short Course

Prize Giving:  2.00pm at the Union Rowing Club.

Tide Condition:  10.08am, 2.6m high tide going out.

W1 Harbour Series – 13 September

The third and last instalment of this year’s W1 Harbour Series will be run this Sunday!

  • Date: Sunday, 13 September
  • Time: meet at 9.30am, race start at 10am
  • Where: Petone Foreshore (at the motorway end) as the forecast is for a Northwesterly, 20 knots
  • Distance: ~ 10km (either along the motorway, or to the first bridge on the Hutt river and back)
  • Safety: Paddlers are to ensure that they carry all necessary safety gear, i.e. life jacket, bailer, etc.
  • Cost: nil, just your enthusiasm
  • Purpose: This event is for those looking for some competition and for those wanting to spice up their W1 training sessions.

The event is open to all paddling craft.

Note that the event this Sunday will formally conclude this year’s W1 Harbour Series. However, Chester’s Surfski and Waka Ama Series kicks off on 27 September, thereafter run approximately every three weeks. www.surfskiandwakaama.blogspot.com

2009 Waka Ama & Surf Ski, Kayak Series

The waka ama, surf ski and kayak race series dates for 2009 listed below take place on Sunday’s at 10am.
8km – February 8 – Petone Foreshore (opposite Buick St) around Matiu Island
10km – March 1 – Ngatitoa Domain
13km – March 15 – Petone Motorway Course (Waterski Club)

Entry fee $5 per paddler or $10 per team (W6) to cover administration and spot prizes. All the events above provide some competition as a build up to Tauranga and our own event ‘Matariki Marathon’ in May.
