L2 Covid-19 Update

It’s important in order to keep yourselves and your wider paddling community safe that you take the appropriate steps in making the changes required.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

Unfortunately the Paddler Series Race that was due to be held on the Whanganui River and hosted by Te RInga Miti Tai Heke on the 25th of September has now been cancelled.

As far as we know the Tai Tonga event Nga Mata o te Ariki Tawhirimatea has also been postponed, we will update you with any information as soon as we can.

Sprint Regionals are set for the following dates and more information will be out in the next couple of weeks.

27th and 28th November-W6 and W12 Races

4th December-W1 Races

Again we would like to thank all the clubs for being diligent around the Covid-19 Level changes and requirements. Please remember to stay home if you are feeing unwell.

Level 4-Covid Restrictions

As the nation is now in L4 we just want to remind you of the restrictions around Waka Ama.

Waka Ama Alert Level 4

  • All events on the waka ama calendar this week will be cancelled/postponed, and if the shutdown is extended further, those events outside of the 3-7 day shutdown will be cancelled/postponed also
  • All Waka Ama club and team trainings/events are cancelled during Alert Level 4.
  • Do not go paddling during Alert Level 4 or do any other activities that may require search and rescue services. For example, do not go swimming, surfing, boating, hunting or tramping

We know that this has effected many of our own Waka Ama events this weekend but if we do our part in staying home and off the water we will be able to return to the water sooner. Our priority is always for the health and safety of our paddlers, their whanau and wider community. So please no paddling for this period of time.

Please note that the Tai Tonga event Ngā Mata o te Ariki Tāwhirimātea has been tentatively postponed with a new date of September 11th pending sanctioning.

The Coaching Courses that were going to be held on Sunday 22nd August in Wellington are also cancelled. However Waka Ama NZ have got a couple of online coaching clinics with Corinna Gage via zoom this weekend. Please see the information below:

Paddler Series Race 3 Cancelled

Unfortunately PCKC has had to make the call to cancel next weekends race in Onepoto due to the uncertainty of when the Rahui will be lifted.

If you have any questions regarding this please get in contact with us otherwise we would love to see you all at our final Paddler Series Race which is being held in Whanganui on Saturday 25th September. Entries to this race are now open and all information can be found on this link. Please contact your clubs representative if you would like to enter.

Coaching Clinics

Waka Ama NZ is rolling out a whole heap of coaching clinics right across NZ and have some coming up in Hoe Tonga.

On Saturday 31 July Corrina Gage will be at Plimmerton School and taking two different clinics:

8.30am to 11.30am Sprint Racing Skills

12.30pm to 3.30pm Distance Racing Skills

Then on Sunday 1st of August there is a Waka Ama Foundation Coaching Course with the emphasis on CBE Safety happening at the Nuku Ora office space on Thorndon Quay, this course will run from 10am-4pm

Paddler Series Race 3 Entries Open

The 3rd Leg of our Paddler Series takes us down to Onepoto where PCKC will host two races, a short course (8km) and a long course (16km) on Saturday 7th August.

Get in touch with your club representative to enter in your team. Entries for this event close on Monday 2nd August at 10pm and roster will close on Wednesday 4th August 10pm.

Hoe Tonga Paddler Series Race 2-Results

Race 2 of our Paddler Series was held in Foxton yesterday and saw 27 compete across an 8km short course and a 18km long course which took them up the awa and into the Foxton Loop, something that many locals enjoyed watching from the banks and reserve in the town centre.

We would like to thank everyone for coming along to this event, to our volunteers, safety boat drivers and providers, to the clubs that entered and to all the supporters-we cant do these types of events without you.

Race 3 will be held at Onepoto, Porirua and will be hosted by PCKC on Saturday 7th August. See you all there!

Coaching Clinic with Tupuria King

Entries for Race 2 Closing Soon

Now is the time to get your clubs team entries in for Race 2 of our Paddler Series. Being held at the Manawatu Boat Club in Foxton on Saturday 10th July. Two races will be going ahead-a short course 8km race and a long course which is 18km.

The Foxton community is excited to see waka on the awa again and the turn for the 18km race goes right up into the township.
