Cold Kiwi Series Event 4 Sunday 2 August

The Series has been ticking along nicely with the first three events having fine and reasonably warm weather.

To date we’ve been to Porirua venues twice and out to Hutt City once….and this Sunday it’s Wellington City that jumps into the cycle of events, to have a solid flotilla of craft gracing it’s waterway.

Whatever the weather we’ll still be able to deliver the same shelter whatever the wind conditions on the day.

Evans Bay is our go to stretch of water and we’ll be using Hataitai Beach if it’s a Northerly and the Marina at the bottom of Cobham drive if it’s a Southerly.

For updates on the event go to www.wellypaddlers.blogspot.co.nz for updates on Monday Wednesday and the last update and final venue announcement on Saturday morning at 9.45  am.

An update on the proposal for a new structure for Hoe Tonga

At a regional meeting on 26 June, clubs had an opportunity to discuss the draft proposal for a new Board structure for Hoe Tonga with Lara Collins from Waka Ama New Zealand. Click here to download the minutes with some key questions and answers. For the original proposal, please refer to the post on our website: http://www.hoetonga.co.nz/?p=4976.

Following the regional meeting, a draft constitution was drafted. Click here to download. The draft constitution has now been circulated to clubs to inform further discussion.

Below an overview on how key feedback has been reflected in the draft constitution:

  • rules for new Board Structure: see section 10
  • election of ‘elected’ Board members: see section 10.5 and section 13.6
  • appointment of appointed Board members: see section 10.6
  • one club, one vote: see section 13.1
  • outline of how the transition would work between current structure and Board structure: see section 21

If paddlers wish to provide feedback, please either contact your respective club or alternatively contact the Hoe Tonga President or Vice-President (see contact page).

Proposal to change the way Hoe Tonga works

In order to achieve the objectives of our region’s strategic plan, a proposal has been developed to change the governance structure of our region. Hoe Tonga invites clubs and paddlers in the region to discuss this proposal let the Hoe Tonga executive know their views.

Click here to download the proposal.

Note that the proposal was formally tabled at the regional meeting on 8 June. At that meeting some initial feedback was received from the clubs present, and the above proposal has been amended slightly to take account of that feedback (eg all clubs continue to have one vote each).

Next steps

29 June: Meeting between regional clubs and Waka Ama NZ CEO Lara Collins will provide an opportunity to discuss the Waka Ama NZ experience with a board structure, and experience in other regions (at Police College, 6.30-8pm)

15 July: Deadline for clubs and paddlers to provide formal feedback by way of submissions

22 July: Revised proposal and a draft constitution provided to clubs and paddlers
