Hoe Tonga Paddler Series Race 1

Get ready for this year’s Hoe Tonga Paddler Series 2023, designed to attract new paddlers to our sport, and to enable paddlers and teams to race during the winter season. The Series is overseen by Hoe Tonga, but each individual race is hosted and organised by member clubs or event organisers. 

Please note that race details are subject to change. Please keep an eye on updates regarding any of the races.

Biggest Secondary Schools event EVER!!

What a beautiful day it was. The water was glistering, the ducks were singing and the waka were flying. Officially our biggest secondary schools event ever!! Wooohoooo!!! That is Massive!! Well done everyone

We want to take this time to thank David Fa’atafa at College Sport Wellington for working with all the College’s in our Hoe Tonga region. Also to Te Wānanga o Aotearoa and Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Wairarapa for the usage of your waka. To all of the whānau that volunteered your time out on the loading bay or anywhere else, thank you so much. Lastly Wairarapa Waka Ama club, thank you very much for hosting us and to our Hoe Tonga Board team for putting on an awesome event as always.

Congratulations goes out to Cullinane College for winning the Hoe Tonga Spirit Award and Manukura winning our school Excellence award. Kei runga noa atu koutou.

Hoe Tonga Te Wānanga o Aotearoa Secondary Regionals 2023

Summary

  • Host: Hoe Tonga Pacifica Waka Ama Association
  • Venue: Henley Lake, Masterton
  • When: Saturday, 11 March 2023 (reserve day is 12 March)
  • Divisions: J19, J16, Year 7/8
  • Entries closed on Thursday 2 March 2023

Key information

Note!

  • There are no refunds for entries after the entry cut-off date where paddlers choose not to race or show up on race day (even if invoices have not yet been received, or schools have not yet settled relevant entry fees).
  • Entries are to be done via each school (for secondary schools through the school sports coordinators; for intermediate schools directly with Hoe Tonga)
  • We invite all teams to arrive at the venue no later than 8am. A race briefing is scheduled for 8.45am, and racing is scheduled to commence at 9am.
  • W1 racing will commence before the W6 races. Note: Minimum W1 weight is now 14kg (previously 16kg)
  • There will be a late fee if an entry is not completed by the deadline, or if the roster has not been completed on time ($15 per entry).
  • There are no refunds or fee reductions for entries that withdraw after the entry deadline.
  • Lane Draw and Race Schedule will be posted up closer to Race day.

Hoe Tonga Regional Sprints W1 Results

And that’s it for another year at Henley Lake. A big thank you to all the volunteers that assisted in the delivery of the event in some shape or form, and Wairarapa Waka Ama Canoe Club for hosting the event. W1 draft schedule and lane draw now available

A revised draft schedule and draw for Regionals 2022 is now available at https://hoetonga.wordpress.com/2022/09/25/hoe-tonga-sprint-regionals-2022/.

Please check this carefully for your paddlers, as a number of divisions had to be combined. Relevant entries are marked with the division after the paddler’s name. 

Note that any withdrawals received since the entry close-off (Sunday 11 December) still incurs the full entry fee, as per the race information provided.

INFORMATION ABOUT W1 QUOTA!!!! 

Compared with other years, Hoe Tonga have seen a reduced number of entries for the upcoming W1 Sprints Champs on Saturday 17 December. We want to encourage paddlers to fill each division’s W1 quota.

We want to ensure our clubs and paddlers are aware of the W1 Hoe Tonga policy and selection process for the National Waka Ama Sprint Championships. We encourage paddlers interested in attending Nationals, to read the selection process. 

Secondly – We have reopened the online entries until 11.59pm Sunday 11/12/22, to try encourage more of our clubs to enter more W1 paddlers. Kia kaha mai tātou
