W6 (II) on 13 December will go ahead
The event will go ahead.
Unfortunately the windy conditions continue. The forecast from 3.30pm is as follows: Northwest rising to 30 knots gusting 40 knots in the morning, easing to 25 knots gusting 35 knots in the evening. Cloudy periods, with some afternoon showers. 19 degrees.
This means effectively that the weather will be similar to today. However, due to the northwesterly winds, the race course is reasonably protected (apart from the area around the 500m startline) and the wind chop build up is somewhat limited. Thus, teams will likely find that the wind rather than waves are the main problem.
The committee has therefore decided to go ahead.
Lost paddles at W1 event 5.12.09
If you have taken home or found 3 paddles at the regional W1 trials on Saturday they need to be returned please to Frances Barnsley (Toa Waka Ama Club) or you can contact Chris Fox 027 651 5379 and bring along to the event on Saturday 12 December.

Huge thanks on International Volunteer Day

Congratulations and thank you to the awesome team of volunteers from Hoe Tonga assisting at the Regional OC1 Champs on Saturday 5 December 2009. Not only a fantastic day weather wise but coincided with International Volunteers Day recognition and celebrations.
We look forward to another successful day on Saturday 12 December 2009 at our final W6 regatta before Nationals.

Lane draw & race schedule for OC1 Champs on 5 Dec
The Regional OC1 Champs will run as planned, the weather outlook is very positive: fine with ligh winds.
Important times on race day:
- 6.30am – Volunteers, officials and race committee meet at Onepoto Reserve (event set-up)
- 7.40am – Volunteer and officials briefing at the registration / information caravan
- 8.00am – Sign-in and weigh-in commences
- 8.45am – Karakia, race and safety briefing
- 9.00am to ~5pm – Racing

Correction: The race format will involve only heats and finals (and no semi-finals). Progression to finals will be based only on times posted. However, this does not affect selection rules as outlined in the race information package.

W6 Sprint #1 Postponed now Sunday 22 November
Hoe Tonga are making an early call today to advise due to adverse weather conditions expected tomorrow we will be postponing racing until Sunday 22nd November 09. See panui 2 attached.
Attached is a copy of the lane draw which will be used on Sunday. Please print out your own copies before you attend and advise all members & volunteers of the changes that have occurred.

Hoe Tonga Strategic Plan adopted
The Hoe Tonga region has just adopted its strategic plan (2009-2014). Please click here to access a copy. The adoption of this plan follows extensive consultation since late 2008.
Hoe Tonga’s strategic plan sets out the key direction for the organisation, its vision, mission, values and key strategic initiatives to further develop Waka Ama in the region.
Hoe Tonga is looking for people with a variety of skills that may want to contribute to the achievement of the various strategic initiatives and goals.
This could include project managing the strategic initiatives. If you would like to be involved, please contact any of the executive officers. Don’t be shy, this may also be a great way of further developing your professional and personal skills (e.g. project management, planning, etc. ).
AGM news: New Hoe Tonga Executive
At the AGM on 9 November 2009 new executive officers were voted in. The new executive officers are as follows

- Treasurer: Averill Paenga
- Secretary: Mere Elkington
- Hoe Tonga representative at NKOA: Samantha Tamanui
Please welcome and support them in their roles.
Many many thanks for the great work and the achievements of the outgoing executive officers: Katie Townsend (former president) and Raukawa Comerford (former secretary). We thank them for all they have given to the sport of Waka Ama within our region.
Note that Averill Paenga has kindly agreed to continue in the role of Treasurer until a replacement can be found. We would like to call on all paddlers and supporters, if you are interested in taking up this role please contact any of the executive officers.
Ideally we are looking for somebody with some financial and/or accounting skills. This could include somebody who is retired and who is looking for a rewarding role in moving Waka Ama in the Hoe Tonga region forward.
