2009 National Sprints Results – How our region did

Hi everyone,

Firstly congratulations to all the paddlers that competed and volunteers that assisted at Nationals 2009.

We were extremely lucky this year to have Karmen Wallace from Tai Tonga 41 OCC who took on the heavy role as regional coordinator which involved many hours of hard work leading up to and during Nationals and is a highly regarded position within the region and at National level. We hope that next year another club will take the iniative to head this important role. On behalf of Hoe Tonga, thank you Karmen for your expertise and time you gave to assist us all.

The attached document is a summary of how Hoe Tonga (All the clubs within the Wellington region) did at Nationals this year. Click here HTPWAA : 2009 National Sprints Regional Successes

Arohamai, trends/results were taken from the Finals only, please don’t be offended if your club was not noted in this doc which is a reflection of the official results and/or if I have left a team or person out by accident. The doc was a manual compilation of results.

We are proud to announce in acknowledgement of your success and achievement that amongst the regions 8 clubs that competed at Nationals this year, Hoe Tonga (Wellington) brought home a grand tally of 20 x medals. Well done to you all.

To our regional paddlers who raced at Nationals 2009 in the OC1 category!

Hoe Tonga Committee wishes to congratulate the following OC1 paddler:
Claire Sykes – Bronze OW 500m & Silver MW 500m – Kokiri Tai Patu Waka Ama Club

Amy Roberston, Christina Chase, Mereana Hodges, Chris Fox, Joern Scherzer who all made finals in their respective divisions.

  2. Race results for Saturday 20 December – ONEPOTO => htpwaa-sprint-regatta-2-results

Special thanks to all crews, managers and coaches for coming to this event. It was a shame to have to call it prior to the turning and W12 racing, however, we are at the mercy of the elements. Additional special thanks to those supporters, paddlers and volunteers who assisted with the various roles today – we are very appreciative of your support.
Of note is that several queries were raised on the results. We welcome feedback on any of the races run and specifically races: 27, 24 and 20. If you have any feedback, please feel free to email us below or use the option to “feedback” within this notice.

Hoe Tonga AGM

The Hoe Tonga AGM was held Monday 3 November with the following people elected to executive positions:

President: George Fa’alogo
Vice President: Katie Townsend
Treasurer: Averill Paenga
Secretary: Raukawa Comerford
NKOA representative: Samantha Tamanui

We congratulate these people and look forward to building on the great work that the Hoe Tonga Committee are undertaking particularly in developing partnerships with organisations who can help our region develop like Sport Wellington.

We welcome two new clubs to our region and have posted the minutes of the AGM 2008 below:

Maritime Authority – Waka Ama Water Safety

  • Purchase of 2 LED white 360degree navigation light for dawn, dusk, night paddling – same lights recommended by NKOA site; recommended retail is $85, yours for NZ$49 including GST and courier – orders and payments to Marinna@paradise.net.nz
  • 3A-5400-S’ Stern Light version of the Mark III 2 LED marker light (23cm high). This has a suction cup which is easily removed.
  • The other version is ‘3A-5400-2’ which is the same light attached to an aluminium mast (43cm height). The tube is pressed around the light for a ‘semi-permanent’ mount. The tube also has 2 holes drilled through the lower end so it can be screwed or bolted to another surface or support.

All clubs / all paddlers should take the time to review this material
