Several ama stolen or vandalised

Several ama have been stolen or vandalised at Mana Pasifika OCC based at Ngati Toa Domain.

Anita Taggart’s ama was blue and was from a surfrigger. Dennis Ngatai had a yellow click-in ama, also for a surfrigger, Piki Emery had a white ama for a Tomahawk.

If you find these, or someone is trying to sell these to you, please contact Hoe Tonga or the owners.

Sunday, 31 July: Race 3 of Ice Water Series

This race will be at Dolly Varden Beach (next to Paremata Bridge in Mana/Porirua). The forecast is for a strong Westerly.

The course may involve going to Onepoto and back (to get shelter from the wind), and on to Brown’s Bay and back.

When you arrive, please come to registration (ask for Joern or Tanya).

Tai Paddle to give away

Thats’s right, a brand new Tai Paddle will be one of our spot prizes for the Hoe Tonga W6 PADDLA Series.

But you have to race (and be on the roster for your respective team) in order to go in the draw. So go on, get those entries sorted.

For more detail and to see who has entered, go to https://hoetonga.wordpress.com/2016/04/24/hoe-tonga-w6-paddla-series-2016/.

Please don’t leave this until the last minute, as this makes it hard on organisers. All entries are to be online done by your club reps.

Race 3 of Ice Water Paddler Series postponed!

Postponement!

Due to the very poor weather forecast for this coming Sunday, the Ice Water Paddler Series Race 3 has been postponed until Sunday 31 July.

I know that some of us are hardy enough that we would paddle regardless, but I’m worried about keeping the time keepers happy too ;).

Ice Water Paddler Series – Race 2 results

Thanks for participating in and supporting this race. Some reasonably challenging conditions for the rudderless W1, with a hard side-on wind for most of the way. The course distance was 9km, with the Hutt River bridge as the half way turning point.

A total of 16 paddlers were in attendance. The next race will be back in Porirua, let’s get those number up again.

What is the meaning of Hoe Tonga’s logo?

Ever wondered what the meaning of Hoe Tonga’s logo is?

logo transparent

  • HOE TONGA simply means SOUTHERN PADDLERS
  • PACIFICA means peoples of the pacific, not specifically any one race or origin, so Polynesian, European, Micronesian, Asian and any mix of these.
  • The THREE WAVES on each side of the logo pointing towards Aotearoa/New Zealand represent humankind’s most common ideogram for WATER. They also represent POWER and INDEPENDANT MOVEMENT.
  • The SPRIAL in the background represents OUTGOING MIGRATIONS. Like a pebble on a pond, the ripple effect spreads out accross the water from where it originates (in this case the centre of Aotearoa).
  • The four KOWHAIWHAI represent the FOUR WINDS N/S/E/W, The FOUR CORNERS of the PACIFIC, STRENGTH and UNITY.
  • The FIGURES in the canoe do not represent Male or Female, Young or Old but everyone and anyone.

The Series has been designed to enable W6 teams to prepare for the Long Distance Nationals 2016, and to attract new paddlers to our sport. Races consist of a long course (10-15km) for senior teams, and a shorter course (5-8km) for junior and novice (1st year paddling) teams. The Series is overseen by Hoe Tonga, but each individual race is hosted and organised by a member club.

In addition, Jörn Scherzer was elected as Chair, and Paora Ammunson was elected Deputy Chair.

Find out more about each board member at http://www.hoetonga.co.nz/?p=5199.
