Porirua Student Sport Transition Project

Invitation for schools and sports club to be part of the Porirua Student Sport Transition Project read more here..Letter PCC Student Transition Project

Background: A large number of school children between the ages of eleven (11) years old to eighteen (18) years old become inactive when moving from primary and intermediate schools to secondary school and onwards.  Unfortunately, there is no known data in Porirua to support this but national and regional data from national and regional sporting bodies, as well as the Ministry of Education suggests that many young people become less-active in sport or recreation when they reach these ages in their lives.

The Porirua Student Sport Transitions Project aims to increase sport and recreation participation by students at Primary,IntermediateSchoolsand Secondary School and including school leavers. This is new ground for Porirua City and it will need working closely with other stakeholders who’ll benefit from this project like Hoe Tonga’s Porirua based waka ama clubs and the regional body.

Wanted: Senior Master Men

kia ora waka ama whanau, it gives me great pleasure to introduce to you the “Paddle Pops”. The Paddle Pops are a new team of Senior Master Men paddlers whose goal it is to be competitive within their age bracket or at least work hard and have fun to get there.

Each week we train from Hikoikoi Waka ama, 24 Marine Parade, Petone on Monday and Wednesday nights from 5:30 pm and on Sunday morning from 7:30 am, not for the faint hearted. These times will change over summer.

At the moment we have 7 keen paddlers from a number of waka ama clubs :Tunui, Kokiri, Hawaikinui and Hikoikoi, but we would love to have more paddlers to possibly enter in water change events or compete against each other.

If you are a male and at least 49 years old then please contact me, Ron Sederel, on 021-244 5082 and I will be able to answer all your questions or get you a seat on one of our waka’s.
